Furniture exhibition in Suomenlinna Gunpowder magazine

Exhibition design, 2018

For this exhibition location was the main design. Because of the limited means we had in use, we wanted to find a space that would in itself, with minimum effort and clever modifications, act for our purpose. After a long search for an inspiring space we found the spatial structure of the 18th century gunpowder magazine. The magazine is composed of a main hall (the storage) with a narrow corridor in the perimeter. The original function of the corridor was to level down the pressure in the vault in case the gunpowder should explode. For us it created an opportunity to make a curated path through a cool, dim corridor that would end up in the warm and glorious barrel vaulted hall in the middle.
